Whenever someone comes to me in search of "something new" to add to an already crowded tank, I try hard to steer them in the direction of live plants. It has come to my attention how many people don't understand the benefits of having live plants in their aquariums.
Lets list just a few of the benefits of live plants before we dive a bit deeper into how it all works.
Live plants eat up harmful nutrients that collect in the water due to fish waste
Live plants provide wonderful cover for the creatures in the tank
Live plants create dividers, or territories in the tank for the fish to claim as their own
